People Working Together Can Make A Difference

I Am BETTY

Yellowknife - January 9, 2012: I Am BETTY is an awareness campaign in support of BETTY House, a shelter for women and women with children at risk of becoming homeless. Fundraising for BETTY House is being coordinated by the Yellowknife Homelesness Coalition and the shelter will be run by YWCA Yellowknife once constructed.

With the support of BHP Billiton EKATI Diamond Mine, an intensive 6-week advertising campaign will begin in early 2012 to support fundraising efforts. At the end of the campaign, a limited edition book of profiles and an album featuring some of the North’s remarkable talent will be released with all funds raised going to BETTY House. The Yellowknife Community Foundation was pleased to launch the fund raising drive for BETTY House in January 2011 with a contribution of $50,000, see "Coalition Receives Significant Contribution from Foundation" for details.

The Yellowknife Community Foundation is a registered charity. It was formed in 1993 to provide residents (and former residents) with a means of supporting projects in our community for the enduring future. The Foundation is not singularly dedicated to any specific area of support. It embodies a simple concept - that people working together can make a difference.
