Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary - Yellowknife Unit

25th Anniversay Celebration

September 8, 2007 - The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary - Yellowknife Unit held a special ceremony at the Great Slave Cruising Club today to commemorate the 25th anniversary of a fatal boating accident that led to the creation of the organization.

During the ceremony the Yellowknife Community Foundation and Janet and Marvin Robinson were recognized for their contribution to the Coast Guard Auxiliary to assist with the purchase of several pieces of specialized search and rescue equipment. On June 25th , 2007 the Foundation awarded the Coast Guard Auxiliary a grant of $8,000 through the Gary Robinson Memorial Fund. The Fund, established to commemorate Gary Robinson, provides financial support to those individuals or charitable organizations involved in se - arch and rescue/recovery or emergency response activities.

In 2006, the Foundation provided funding through the Gary Robinson Memorial Fund to the Yellowknife Search and Rescue Society to assist with the purchase of a Snowbulance rescue vehicle. Additional funding was provided in 2007 to purchase a heating unit for the Snowbulance. (Photos - 1 / 2)
