GRANT GUIDELINES

Funding Priorities

The Yellowknife Community Fund was established to assist the Foundation with addressing its mandate. As such, grant requests will be considered for projects in or around Yellowknife which:

  1. advance the welfare of the needy and alleviate human suffering and poverty:
  2. assist and promote arts and cultural activities, sports, recreation and community development;
  3. advance education;
  4. assist and advance the provision of medical services; and
  5. assist and advance other community activities or facilities of a charitable nature.

This is Your Community Foundation

Founded in 1993, the Community Foundation actively serves our community as a fund developer, fund manager and grant-maker. We also often serve as a convenor, planner and enabler for special projects. The foundation represents a pooling of many individual funds established by generous citizens, corporations and other organizations through donations, gifts of life insurance and bequests. These funds make up the permanent endowments of the Foundation, the income of which is disbursed as grants.

What does the Foundation Support?

The Foundation awards grants in the areas of social services, health, arts, education and the environment, primarily within the Yellowknife region. For many of the funds under the Foundation’s care, annual earnings are directed to purposes designated by the donors. When donors have left their funds unrestricted or to a broad field of interest, the Community Foundation solicits and accepts grant applications from organizations which meet certain guidelines. A voluntary Grants Committee, serving limited terms, evaluates applications and makes recommendations to the Board of Governors. The Board awards grants within the parameters of the available funds.
